Well, this article really got me thinking...Who knows the future? Who owns the future? Something like this has got be next to impossible. More difficult than predicting the weather patterns which are only 50% effective for those predictions made for more than two months at a time. With all these technology 'experts' blogging here and … Continue reading Negligent Parents…? Really?
Freedom to Read Week
Excited about Freedom to Read Week. February 18-21, 2010. We're going to be doing something here in the library. Not sure what. Perhaps publish a banned/challenged book list and ask staff and students to sign or star the books that they have read. Stay tuned for announcements on LVTV for the specifics!
Google Rolls Over Writers
So, Google rolls over writers...My first reaction?I had to chuckle. I mean, this seems to be a very late reaction to a corporate maneuver that has been on the make for about four years now. It's only now that writers see the writing on the wall...?Not much to say on this, only that I understand … Continue reading Google Rolls Over Writers
Students more stressed than ever?
OK. I sort of believe the gist of this study...But, it's not like we didn't see this coming. I mean, what did we expect when parents do everything for our students? Surely, when parents do not allow their child to fall, deal with repercussions, approach and enter into confrontations with teachers, coaches, and peers. What … Continue reading Students more stressed than ever?
Technology and the Future: What do we lose?
I just had to write today. Not much really on my mind, but I know that I had to write something. A great conversation this morning about technology. This individual is not opposed to technology and embraces and utilizes it often (she wants a SmartBoard--I know she will use it and it won't collect dust), … Continue reading Technology and the Future: What do we lose?
ALA Literary Awards for Young Adult & Teen
The American Library Association (ALA) winners for 2009 have been announced. I don't have many of these in our collection--they are mostly American--which is a real shame since the Canadian young adult market is booming with young and creative offerings. Nevertheless, the ALA rarely picks duds, here's the list of winners.
Part Two On Hold
Lots to do this morning, but I really couldn't help but take note of Al Smith's terrific reply to the idea of transforming our school libraries into 'learning commons'. Ever the wordsmith (no pun intended!), Al really gets to the heart of the matter--call your library whatever you want--but above all else--maintain the service and … Continue reading Part Two On Hold
Google: Not just a search engine (anymore)
Google: The Great DisrupterCan't say I'm surprised...Buying energy rights? Releasing their own cell phone? Stealing news content from primary sources?Google is no longer your friendly little search engine and web content provider anymore.Prepare to read and laugh, cry, be appalled, overjoyed, whatever...just read.
Professional Autonomy is Killing Teachers…?
OK. Here's another resolution that I guess is a resolution. I resolved to continue to blog once or twice a week (actually it was more like 2 or 3 times) but nevertheless I soldier on. I resolve to work towards developing my Netvibes page and my blog. While at times I get a little nervous … Continue reading Professional Autonomy is Killing Teachers…?
Resolution?
To be straight up front, I don't believe in New Year's resolutions. I have never really made one or at least made one that was reasonable, obtainable and really relevant to my personal and professional lives.But... I was watching Dave Cormier go off about the semantics of definitions--specifically the use (overuse? misuse?) of the word … Continue reading Resolution?
