Google Rolls Over Writers

So, Google rolls over writers…

My first reaction?

I had to chuckle. I mean, this seems to be a very late reaction to a corporate maneuver that has been on the make for about four years now.

It’s only now that writers see the writing on the wall…?

Not much to say on this, only that I understand their anger and sympathesize with their call to arms against Google. Although I am neither self-employed nor artistic in any true sense of the word, I think that in general, writers have been slow to take up this cause. In a way, they have themselves to blame. Perhaps they felt that Google would go away and just stick to being the largest search engine in the world.

Except for the fact that Google is no longer a search engine (and hasn’t been for several years), and it will continue to align itself with the future and what it sees as controlling media and information for decades to come.

Do I think this is right? Nope. Should something be done? Yep, and probably a wee bit sooner.

This is scary stuff all the way around!
